Classic Barbecue Sauce | Low Carb | Sugar Free

A quick and simple homemade barbecue sauce with 1g of carbs per serving!

I was on the hunt for a low carb barbecue sauce and almost every recipe had a base of sugar free ketchup – something I don’t have access too! As a general rule, I prefer to make my food as simply as possible, with minimal processed foods – since I couldn’t find a recipe or product that fitted my needs, I created one!

This barbecue sauce tastes just like a classic sweet and tangy sauce. As prepared, the barbecue sauce has 1 gram of carbs per every 2 tablespoons! This sauce is a solid, simple base, but the sky is the limit depending on your tastes. – you could add red pepper flakes for heat, or some maple extract and more stevia for extra sweetness, or even some chipotle sauce for a richer smoky flavor!

Low Carb Classic Barbecue Sauce

1 cup water
35g tomato paste
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1 tbp garlic powder
1 tbp onion powder
1 tbp mustard powder
1/2 tsp stevia (3-4 drops liquid stevia)
Salt
1/4 tsp xanthan gum

In a small saucepan, combine water, tomato paste, and seasonings and bring to a simmer. Stir occasionally until the tomato paste and water are fully combined. Sprinkle the xanthan gum over the sauce and stir in quickly to avoid clumps. Continue simmering on low for 10-60 minutes, the sauces flavors will develop more the longer it simmers.

I store my sauce in the fridge for up to a week.

Raw Honey in Skincare

.

Recently, I watched May Lindstrom and Caroline Hirons interview on YouTube and I was really inspired by Lindstrom’s ingredient philosophy.

It dawned on me “I have raw honey!” We keep bees and just harvested 12 pints of honey – way more that I could ever eat. Propolis and honey are common skincare ingredients and even Dr Alktilas suggests mixing his Organic Universal Mask mask with honey so I decided to do some research and experiments.

Raw, organic honey is fantastic for the skin! (I wouldn’t recommend using conventional, massed produced honey). It’s antibacterial and contains zinc so it can treat and prevent breakouts. It’s very high in antioxidants so it can prevent signs of aging. It’s also nourishing and hydrating. Honey can be used alone as a cleanser or a mask. I used it as a mixer for powdered masked: Dr Alkaitis’s Organic Universal Mask and May Lindstrom The Problem Solver.

I absolutely loved mixing the Organic Universal Mask mask with honey – it made my skin feel very hydrated.

I didn’t 100% love honey with The Problem Solver. I will probably continue to do it periodically because it offers some great benefits but it damped the sensory experience of the mask. Mixing the powder with honey + water took away the tingling feeling I usually get with the mask and it lessened the wonderful molasses cookie scent it normally has. So, if you have sensitive skin, adding honey to The Problem Solver might make it less harsh on your skin.

I’m really excited to keep looking for places to use raw honey in my skincare routine! Have you bought raw honey at the story to use for skincare? How did you use it? Let me know!

Velour – Create Your Own Lashes | REVIEW

.

I’ve had my eye on Velour’s Create Your Own Lash options for a long time, but last month I finally decided to give it a try and I am in love! I honestly do not understand why no one talks about this. The biggest problem I have with finding false lashes is finding a pair that is a right in the sweet spot between natural and DRAMA.  Velour gave me the ability to create my perfect, everyday lash (flared, criss crossed, whispie, 9mm)!

The two downsides that I have with this feature is that the lash you will create is going to be very basic and nothing crazy – which is fine by me because you can find crazy lashes everywhere. The other bad thing is that you cannot chose the material your lash is made of – they only come in mink.
