Pixi Beauty x Caroline Hirons | Double Cleanse | Review

.

Pixi Caroline Hirons double cleanse

In A Few Words
The Pixi X Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse is a “unique 2-in-1 jar created by Caroline Hirons where one side contains a solid cleansing oil and the other side a luxe cleansing cream for the ultimate PM cleansing.” It is a simple, gentle oil and cream cleansing duo for all skin types. The cleanser come in a plastic tub with 50mls (1.6 oz) of each cleanser and is sold at Target and pixibeauty.com.

I have no complaints with the goo – obviously, if Caroline put her name on something, it’s going to be fantastic. With that being said, I won’t be repurchasing it (this tub was given to me as a birthday gift) because I hate everything about the packaging. Because it’s a two-in-one product, you get 1/2 the volume of each cleanser so I BLEW through this so quickly. I know it’s purely a physiological thing, but I finished the tub in a month-ish and I just don’t want to have to repurchase a cleanser that frequently. Also, I hate tubs. All balms come in tubs, there’s no other option, but I really hated digging the cream cleanser out of the tub – I would never purchase a solo cream cleanser in a tub and I really don’t *enjoy* the cream cleanser in the Double Cleanse enough to come to terms with that. Finally, I am a disaster – I travel, I have kids, and I’m super Type A and a tub is not conducive to my life. If you set your cleanser on a shelf, calmly open it, and gently place it back in your cupboard then you’re good, you won’t have an issue. I, however, regularly drop it and shuffle it from travel bag to bathroom and the cream cleanser gets EVERYWHERE in the tub and fraternizes with the cleansing balm. The divider in the tub just can’t keep the cream contained when it’s getting thrown across the room.
Even though the packaging is a nightmare for me, the balm will get every spec of makeup off your face, but it can’t quite tackle liquid lipsticks and the cream cleanser is thick, moisturizing, non-irritating and just a great basic cleanser.

All of my negatives with packaging are really personal preferences and, even though I did enjoy the cleansers, it’s not worth it to me to overcome my packaging issues to buy a new tub.

Review

I have been completely loving the Age Prevention Superfood Cleanser by @youthtothepeople. It is an SLS free cleanser that is suitable for a second cleanse or a morning cleanse – though it can remove a full face of makeup if you wanted to use it as a first cleanse. It lathers slightly and while it doesn’t feel hydrating, it leaves my skin feeling balanced and isn’t stripping at all.

The APS Cleanser is so enjoyable to use because its scent is *fantastic* like a luxury interpretation of basil+health food store. There are no fragrances in the cleanser (or basil for that matter, it’s probably the kale I’m smelling).

I love/hate the packaging. It is a glass bottle that shows off the beautiful green cleanser. It looks like something you can leave out on the counter top because the labeling is so simple and clean. Although the bottle is a very think glass, it’s still glass. So it’s not travel friendly and, frankly, it’s not Liz friendly because I have the coordination of a three year old and I really think it’s just a matter of time until I Hulk smash this onto my bathroom floor.

I really think this is a fantastic cleanser. You may want to pass on it if you are very dry or want a hydrating cleanser. Also, this cleanser is packed with essential oils so this cleanse isn’t for you if you have a sensitivity or don’t like to using products w essential oils.

Silicone and Sulfate Free Hair Routine | Dry, Damaged, Over Processed

.

I bleached the living bajeezus out of my hair exactly one year ago this month and I have been trying ever since to bring my hair back to life. My hair was fried and textured, extremely dry (so was my scalp), and frizzy with most of the damage from the mid-shaft to the ends. I’ve blown through a lot of hair products looking for ones that will hydrate and smooth my hair and make it look healthy and silky instead of resembling a Barbie whose hair has been styled 300 times by a 6 year old.

I know time and frequent trims have really helped heal my hair, but I have finally pieced together a hair routine that is really perfect for my hair. If you have overworked hair, some of these products might be good for you too! (Also, not only is my hair over processed, it is naturally thick and coarse so I can go really hard on heavy hair products without them weighing my hair down – some of these might be too heavy for fine or thin hair).

Olaplex No 3 – This is one of the few products that I actually believe heals and repairs the hair. This treatment repairs the bonds in the hair that are damaged by coloring/bleaching/heat styling/etc.

Brigeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Shampoo – I have a dry, flakey scalp and this shampoo (in conjunction with Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment) really does help keep my scalp happier longer. The grit in it definitely does not exfoliate at all, it might of you have finer hair, but it cleans with stripping and soothes my scalp.

I’m not really loyal to any one conditioner, I just try to use one that is silicone free and I’m currently using Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, but I also like Klorane Nourishing Conditioner with Mango Butter and Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment.

Christophe Robin Moisturizing Hair Oil with Lavender – I put a small dollop of this in towel dried hair and let my hair air dry over night (sometimes I’ll wrap it in an Aquis Turban – a microfiber hair wrap that doesn’t snag or damage your hair ). In them morning, my hair is looking a bit greasy, but I then straighten my hair using that excess product as a heat protectant. After my hair is styled, the grease ball look is gone and it is clean and shiny.

Christophe Robin Moisturizing Hair Cream – I love this for a style refresh between washes because it adds smoothness and shine without weighing it down or making the hair look greasy. I used to always use oils to tame my hair every morning, but I love that this adds smoothness and shine without ever making it look greasy.

belif – First Aid 360 Eye Care Mask | Review

.

belif first aid 360 eye care mask

In a Few Words

A moisturizing eye mask with a pudding-like texture that is appropriate to use around the entire eye area.

Belif’s First Aid 360 Eye Care Mask is a “hydrating pudding-like eye care mask releases stress around the eyes and replenishes moisture levels to dry eye rims… The leave-on, cooling and hydrating formula—infused with mimosa herb extract—instantly cools, relieves puffy and fatigued eyes, and prevents visible wrinkles by improving the resilience of the skin around the eye. Further enhanced with three belif napiers formulas (original, detox, and dark circle formulas),” – Napiers are tinctures and formulas formulated by an herbalist,Duncan Napiers, in the late 1800’s. –  are part of  “this eye care mask fights all signs of fatigue and diminishes the appearance of dark circles and puffiness around the delicate and sensitive eye areas.” The Belif First Aid 360 Eye Care Mask comes in a 25 ml plastic pot and retails for about $35.00.

The winter weather wreaks havoc on my skin and the sensitive skin around my eyes is the hardest hit. I tend to get patches of dermatitis on or by my eyelids and the corners of my eyes get extremely dry and chapped because my eyes tend to water constantly. I picked up this mask in desperation hoping I could find something to really soothe and moisturize my sad, angry eyes. Unfortunately, this mask doesn’t offer anything more than an average eye cream would (except that it’s ok to use on your lids, but I will use any eye cream on my lids if I need to). The mask is just fine as a moisturizer, but it doesn’t offer intense hydration or cooling or soothing. Also, the texture is so weird (legitimately like pudding) that it’s awkward to get out a small amount and warm it up between fingers, so I always feel like I’m using too much and wasting it. Even though I don’t like this cream by Belif, my savor this winter has been Belif’s Moisturizing and Firming Eye Cream!

The First Aid 360 Eye Mask is just fine as a budget friendly, basic eye cream, but if you’re looking for an SOS product, this will disappoint.

Notable ingredients it DOES have:
Mimosa Herb Extract: Prevents visible wrinkles by increasing skin resilience around the eyes in addition to relieving signs of fatigue by reducing irritation with tannins, amino acids, and other nutritive elements.
Napiers Original Formula: Contains ant-oxidation, skin calming, anti-trouble and antiaging properties to keep skin healthy.
Napiers Detox Formula: Purifies the skin by removing impurities and delivering antioxidants for improved skin texture.
Napiers Dark Circle Formula: Alleviates dark circles under the eyes with its antioxidant and brightening effects.

Jordan Samuel – The After Show (Plie) Treatment Cleanser – Review

In a Few Words
A gel to oil cleanser that is hydrating, exfoliating, and suitable for all skin types.

In a Few Words
A gel to oil cleanser that is hydrating, exfoliating, and suitable for all skin types.

The After Show Treatment Cleanser is a “unique gel to oil formula uses olive, jojoba, and grape seed oils to remove every trace of makeup (including hard to remove stage makeup), while sugarcane, apple and willow bark extracts provide a gentle exfoliation to leave the skin hydrated, soft and absolutely pristine.” It can be used morning and night: “Massage cleanser thoroughly into dry skin to break down makeup, SPF, dirt and grime. Use a warm wet washcloth to remove cleanser and every trace of makeup. Or simply rinse clean to have hydrated glowing skin.” Jordan Samuel’s The After Show Treatment Cleanser comes in a 3oz plastic tube and sells for $20.00.

This cleanser is absolutely fabulous! Normally, I like to present my critiques first, but I honesly don’t have any. I have seen that some people feel like to doesn’t rinse off completely with just water. I remove it with a washcloth or with only water and I don’t feel like there is residue left behind either way.

The After Show Treatment Cleanser is so enjoyable to use. The gel to oil formula leaves your skin feeling better after washing you face – it’s softer and plumper. It doesn’t strip the skin and will never leave your face feeing dry and tight. It gently chemically exfoliates with fruit ectracts. And it nestoligally smells like Zebra Fruit Strip Gum – it’s fragrance free so, in reality, it just smells like all of the fruit extracts. It is suitable for all skin types and can be used as either a first or second cleanse, I normally use it as a second cleanse but it does do a great job removing makeup.

The After Show Treatment Cleanser is the only cleanser I will need forever and ever, amen.
