The Ordinary – Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% – Review

In a Few Words
A simple overnight exfoliating treatment.

The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% is a “high-strength exfoliating serum with lactic acid and hyaluronic acid. It resurfaces the skin to promote a bright, even tone and a smooth, soft texture.” It comes in a 1 oz glass bottle with a dropper and sells for about $7.00.

I bought this after being underwhelmed by Good Genes and T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum (they were fine but not mind blowing). I use this every other night and apply a full dropper before my oil. I also give it 5-10 minutes to absorb before I move on to my next step – if I move on to my next step then the LA + HA will pill.

The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% is… fine. I didn’t really see any improvement in my skin, but it did a good job maintaining my skin. I would buy it again because the price is so good and I would like to try it on my body (currently I am using an exfoliating lotion from Paula’s Choice). I think I liked Sunday Riley and Drunk Elephant better, but I’m always wanting to try something new so next up is Stratia’s Soft Touch AHA.

This treatment would be good for someone on a budget or someone who wants to try an inexpensive acid treatment before buying a luxury item.

Notable ingredients it DOES have:
Lactic acid – “an alpha hydroxy acid that gently exfoliates to reveal clearer, more radiant skin”
Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer – “a form of hyaluronic acid that boosts skin’s moisture content for a plump, supple, and smooth appearance”

Notable ingredients it does NOT have:
Mineral Oil
Parabens

Possible Irritants:
N/A – though, given the nature of the product, it might irritate sensitive skins

Vegan: Yes

Tested on animals: No

Complete Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER), LACTIC ACID, GLYCERIN, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, ARGININE, POTASSIUM CITRATE, TRIETHANOLAMINE, SODIUM HYALURONATE CROSSPOLYMER, TASMANNIA LANCEOLATA FRUIT/LEAF EXTRACT, ACACIA SENEGAL GUM, XANTHAN GUM, TRISODIUM ETHYLENEDIAMINE DISUCCINATE, PPG-26-BUTETH-26, ETHYL 2,2-DIMETHYLHYDROCINNAMAL, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL.

Stratia – Velvet Cleansing Milk – Review

In a Few Words:
A simple, creamy, and hydrating cleanser.

Stratia’s Velvet Cleansing Milk is “a moisturizing, non-foaming cleanser that gently removes dirt and grime without drying or damaging your skin’s natural barrier. Velvet Cleansing Milk is a rich, emollient cream cleanser that effectively removes dirt, grime, and other buildup while leaving your skin’s natural oils in place. Its cleansing power comes from Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, a water-soluble form of olive oil that gently bonds to grime on your face and rinses cleanly away. Fortified with chamomile, aloe, and rice bran oil, it’s a soothing, purifying cleanser that won’t dry out your skin or leave a film. Velvet Cleansing Milk is fantastic for skin that’s dry to normal, and/or skin that’s sensitive or prone to irritation. It may not provide enough cleansing power for very oily skin.
If you use the double cleansing method, Velvet Cleansing Milk is a second cleanser. It’s strong enough to remove sunscreen and light makeup, but if you wear full-face or waterproof makeup, it’s best to start with an oil-based cleanser or micellar water. “

It comes in a 4 oz plastic bottle with a pump and sells for $15.00.

This cleanser is unscented, simple, and yet completely enjoyable. Stratia’s Velvet Cleansing Milk is one of my favorite face washes because it is hands down the most moisturizing cleanser I have. I agree that is not enough to take off a full face of makeup and I use it as a second cleanse or as a morning cleanse. I don’t like that it has mineral oil in it (C13-14 Isoparaffin). My skin doesn’t have a problem with it, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone with sensitive skin because of the mineral oil. I also don’t like that it only comes in a 4 oz bottle – a normal human who uses the same routine every day would absolutely blow through this in less than a month. But the size is a trade off for the low price tag – part with less money, get less product. There honestly isn’t much to say about this face wash because it is just so basic, but that is why I love it!

I love this cleanser and would recommend it to most people – if you are ok with mineral oils.

Some hormonal acne/congestion popped up on my chin today so tonight’s routine is focused on calming that breakout.

🌿This was my 3rd time using the sample of the Tara Harper Clarifying Mask and I’m not really impressed. I haven’t seen any amazing results 🤷🏻‍♀️I still have some left so I’ll keep trying it out.

Tonight is retinol night so I tried to keep everything else simple, hydrating and nourishing.

Not pictured is makeup removal with Heimish All Clean Balm.

I cleansed with Stratia Velvet Cleansing Milk.

Acid tonight was Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid (I prefer this over an AHA when I am using retinol).

Hydrating toner was Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner. Normally, I would do the Seven Skin Method, but tonight was about a four-ish skin method … I was in too much of a hurry for all seven layers.

Next, I used a thin layer of prescription Tretinoin 0.05%.

Followed by my favorite Indie Lee Calendula Eye Balm focused on the corners of my eyes where I can get very dry.

Finally, I took one pump of Stratia Liquid Gold mixed with four drops of Deciem’s The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil for extra hydration.
