Hard Candy – Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist – Review

The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist “will Prime, hydrate and refresh your face with Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist, available in a 2.2-fl oz bottle. It can be used after your regular moisturizer to prepare your skin for makeup application. The coconut water infused formula boosts hydration benefits for up to 12 hours. It leaves skin soft, smooth and supple. Hard Candy hydrating mist can also be used after makeup application to help set makeup for extended wear.” The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist comes in a 2.2oz plastic spray bottle and sells for $9.00.

I truly love this as a setting spray. It actually does lock in your makeup for a full 12 hours and it gives your face a noticeable glow. I don’t think it does well as a hydrating primer. The third ingredient is coconut water, but I have never noticed any hydration benefits. I don’t really notice any benefits from it as a primer – I didn’t find that it prolonged the wear of my makeup as a primer either. Though, this spray is kind of sticky so that might help makeup stick down. I think you may not like this face mist if you do not like setting sprays that leave a sticky feeling (I don’t mind it, it doesn’t last all day) or if you don’t like dew or glow. The finish of this spray is a noticeable glowy sheen, it is not subtle at all. You might not like it if you prefer finer mists – the spray on the bottle is borderline shower-levels – it  has a wide, even spray but it does spray a ton on product.

The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist is honestly one of  my favorite setting sprays (as you can see, it’s very well-loved), the only reason I haven’t repurchased it is because it’s been out of stock the last few times I’ve been to the store (another negative – it’s only available at Walmart).

e.l.f Cosmetics – Hydrating Face Primer – Review

The e.l.f Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer is a silicone based primer that seals hydration in the skin and increases the wear time of foundations.

In a Few Words
A silicone based primer that seals hydration in the skin and increases the wear time of foundations.

“The e.l.f. Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer boosts your complexion with a drench of hydration, creating a perfect canvas for radiant, younger looking skin. Infused with grape and Vitamins A, C, & E for nourishing and anti-aging benefits. This multipurpose clear skin primer reduces the appearance of fine lines and transforms your face into a flawless and smooth canvas so makeup goes on evenly for a long-lasting finish.” The primer comes on a 1 oz plastic bottle with a pump and sells for $6.00.

Initially, hated this primer because of its silicone texture. But, I wore it with my Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation and it made such a difference in the wear that I think I will keep it around!
Firstly, looking at the ingredients, this primer doesn’t offer anything other than a silicone base – there is grape seed oil in it but I don’t find it to actually be hydrating. e.l.f uses Vitamins A, E, and C as a selling point for the primer, but they are at the very bottom of the ingredients list AFTER the preservatives soooooo… At $6.00, I don’t really expect this primer to be an awesome skincare product too, but that is how it is marketed and I don’t think you should buy this primer thinking that it will be. After first trying this primer, I wanted to just pass it along because it does have a silicone texture that smooths out the skin and I normally hate putting things like that on my face – I just don’t like the feel of very occlusive products. Since it didn’t break me out, I decided to give it a few more tries and I ended up really enjoyed it with my Maybelline Cushion foundation. This primer didn’t really extend the wear a ton, but what it did do was help the way the foundation wore off. A lot of times, thinner foundations like this will wear away pretty patchy on me – my skin will soak up all the water out of the foundation and just leave speckles of pigment on my face – and with this foundation, the e.l.f Hydrating Face Primer provided a nice barrier on top of my skin that helped the foundation wear away more evenly.

The e.l.f Hydrating Face Primer is a decent, basic primer and would be a choice if you are on a budget.
