Simple Beauty Products – Castor Oil

I love beauty products of all kinds and sometimes I enjoy a good, simple product. This post is part of a series sharing my favorite one ingredient beauty products. If your are into simple beauty routines, some of the products in this series might fit really well into your collection!

Castor oil has Vitamin E, proteins, and fatty acids that help nourish and strengthen lashes. Wearing and removing mascara or eyelash glue everyday may take a toll on your lashes by drying them out or making them brittle. Castor oil may help your eyelashes or eyebrows grow longer and thicker by preventing breakage and strengthening hair follicles.

I have been using castor oil on my lashes for about 6 months and I do think it has improved the look of my lashes. I like to use castor oil as a conditioner for my lashes both morning and night. I don’t have any issues using mascara over the castor oil, but I usually have at least an hour between using the oil and putting on my mascara. As with most oils, I prefer Organic, cold-pressed  castor oil and I buy mine on Amazon for about $10.00. I fill an empty mascara tube with the oil, use it for a month or two, and then toss it when it’s empty  so my large bottle doesn’t continuously get contaminated by double dipping disposable mascara wands. I do think my lashes looked slightly longer and fuller after the first couple months of use, but I haven’t seen any additional improvement since then. I have tried castor oil on my hair and it’s ok on the ends only – it was a little too heavy for me in general.

Castor oil can also be used on skin, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’m not too sure how comfortable I would be using it on my face, but let me know what your experience has been!
