In a Few Words
A silicone based primer that seals hydration in the skin and increases the wear time of foundations.
“The e.l.f. Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer boosts your complexion with a drench of hydration, creating a perfect canvas for radiant, younger looking skin. Infused with grape and Vitamins A, C, & E for nourishing and anti-aging benefits. This multipurpose clear skin primer reduces the appearance of fine lines and transforms your face into a flawless and smooth canvas so makeup goes on evenly for a long-lasting finish.” The primer comes on a 1 oz plastic bottle with a pump and sells for $6.00.
Initially, hated this primer because of its silicone texture. But, I wore it with my Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation and it made such a difference in the wear that I think I will keep it around!
Firstly, looking at the ingredients, this primer doesn’t offer anything other than a silicone base – there is grape seed oil in it but I don’t find it to actually be hydrating. e.l.f uses Vitamins A, E, and C as a selling point for the primer, but they are at the very bottom of the ingredients list AFTER the preservatives soooooo… At $6.00, I don’t really expect this primer to be an awesome skincare product too, but that is how it is marketed and I don’t think you should buy this primer thinking that it will be. After first trying this primer, I wanted to just pass it along because it does have a silicone texture that smooths out the skin and I normally hate putting things like that on my face – I just don’t like the feel of very occlusive products. Since it didn’t break me out, I decided to give it a few more tries and I ended up really enjoyed it with my Maybelline Cushion foundation. This primer didn’t really extend the wear a ton, but what it did do was help the way the foundation wore off. A lot of times, thinner foundations like this will wear away pretty patchy on me – my skin will soak up all the water out of the foundation and just leave speckles of pigment on my face – and with this foundation, the e.l.f Hydrating Face Primer provided a nice barrier on top of my skin that helped the foundation wear away more evenly.
The e.l.f Hydrating Face Primer is a decent, basic primer and would be a choice if you are on a budget.
